- Why are LEDs a GREEN technology?
LEDs are environmentally friendly in many ways. First, unlike HID (High Intensity Discharge)our LEDs lights contain NO mercury. Additionally, some LED devices have the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant and have been designed to provide more than a decade of near maintenance-free service. That can means no replacing for a decade which means no money and time wasted changing such lamps
- If HID fixture is replaced every two years , this mean that over a period of 10 years you will install 5 new lamps. For the same period only one lamp is necessary for the same job using LED's
- Most HID lamps contain Mercury that eventually end up in landfills all around the planet.
- Usual HID's contain gas that are also potentially dangerous for human being and nature itself
- The costs involved in maintaining the older technology bulbs and ballasts is very costly in material and resources, not to mention the down time caused in many factories related to the malfunction of these units.
- What is 100,000 hours equivalent to?
Based on how long a fixture is illuminated per day, here's 100,000 in a few breakdown:
100,000 hours of usageis equivalent to:
24 hours a day 11.4 years 18 hours per day 14.8 years 12 hours per day 22.8 years 8 hours per day 34.2 years
- What is 50,000 hours equivalent to?
Based on how long a fixture is illuminated per day, here's 100,000 in a few breakdown:
Hours of Operation: 50,000 hours is:
24 hours a day 5.7 years 18 hours per day 7.4 years 12 hours per day 11.4 years 8 hours per day 17.1 years
- What is a LED?
LED is the abbreviation for a light-emitting diode. Individual LED consists of a semiconductor diode that emits light when a voltage is applied to it. In more recent years, LED technology has progressed to the point where it is viable for general lighting applications. Please check the following website for more information.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-emitting_diode
- Can LEDs be used to replace all conventional or incandescent florescent or halogen light bulbs?
Yes, the LED market is adapting very quickly to the recent changes in regulation that many industrialized country are issuing. The US has passed new regulation about incandescent bulbs lately that will push forward the LED market. New High Power Leds (HPL) are now becoming very accessible which was not the case in the past two years . High power LEDs opposed to single low power LEDs are capable of replacing any type of lighting available but with only one twist, they consume 1/8 to 1/10th the power needed for their incandescent counterpart.
- Is there any benefit for LEDs compared with conventional halogen or incandescent lights?
Yes, there are many, to name a few;
· Low power consumption - energy saving,
· Very long life,
· Instant lighting on,
· Resist vibration and some shock,
· Same size, there is a fit to most existing bulb available,
· No heat generated by the light source
- Could you give more detailed explanations about these LED advantages?
Yes. Energy savings are very high, there is an immediate impact on the power consumption and the utility bill. We have showed several times that changing the traditional bulb (please read this article) will improve dramatically the electrical consumption. This example show a previous 350W installation replaced for the same result by 35W of LED’s
The average life of LED is 100,000 hours tough manufacturers only commit to 50,000 hours compared with 1,000 hours of incandescent bulbs. This is still acceptable and could very well be the last time you change a light bulb.
LEDs emit cold lights a very small amount of energy is converted to heat, so LEDs are much safer for kids who can't resist the urge to touch the light source. Equivalent incandescent light bulbs in terms of danger of fire or burns are incomparable.
LEDs are shielded with plastic materials or polycarbonate covers so they are more resistant than incandescent and (CFL)florescent bulbs that are usually made of glass.
LED,s are now produced in many similar shaped and form and can find a fit in almost all application available on the market. We at INITIAL-LED are working on a constant basis ton elaborated and produce replacements for non existing bulbs. If you require a specific application and would need a special light made, please do not hesitate to contact us with your ideas, who knows we might have your solution available quickly.
Light is produced by a chemical reaction and not a filament that is burning between two electrodes, this method account for a loss of energy in the range of 95%, while only 5% is used to produce light.
- How can I benefit from LED retrofit? There are many benefits to LED conversion, you will notice a decrease in the kilowatt intake you home or office and/or shop /plant consumption. This will impact immediately on your electricity bill. Less heat will lower the need for air conditioning because LED bulbs are very efficient and convert more electricity into light than incandescent bulbs that convert most of the electricity consumed into heat. LED Bulbs can last for a very long period of time that can range from 30,000-50,000 hours. When Incandescent bulbs usually last from 1000-2500 hours. They are shock resistant and are not spark hazardous they also don't contain any mercury and other toxic chemicals, un-like Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL's) that need to be disposed in recycling facilities
- Can LED bulbs be used with Dimmers?
Yes and No. You need to make the correct choice for dimmable feature, The bulbs we sell on our site work well with simple dimmer or electronic dimmer switches. However, not all bulbs are dimmable, and therefore, you can only use bulbs that are designed to be dimmed in a dimmable fixture. Using an non-dimmable bulb in a dimmable fixture will damage the unit, void the warranty and will fail prematurely.
- Do these light bulbs produce a lot of heat?
No, they are not, in fact a 4W light bulb that is lit for more than 25 hours will barely emit any heat, it will feel a little bit warm but can be touched very easily. This account to saving for your air conditioning bill too. Burns and accident caused by heated bulbs are avoidable with LED technology.
- Do LED contain any heavy metals like Mercury or Lead as some other energy saving light bulbs do?
No. LED bulbs do not contain mercury or Lead nor any other type of hazardous metals or chemicals. CFL's, on the other hand have these chemicals. So you don't have to worry about special disposal procedures when the life of your bulb has come to an end.
- What is the color of the light emitted from ?
They come in the same available color as most other light bulbs, now we can offer you, Warm White, Natural White (4000ºK - 4500ºK) and Cool White.
- What are the sizes of the bulbs?
You will barely see the difference between your old light bulbs and your new LED`s, they are almost all drop ins and need no special tools or set of instructions to install.
- How do they operate in comparison to the original light bulbs?
They operate the exact same way. The only real change is that in most case you will be able to touch the light without burning your fingers.
- Will the bulbs come on immediately, and will they have to "warm up" like CFL,s?
Instant On. Instant Off, no time to waste for the warm up of the units. Unlike CFL`s, constant switch ON/OFF will not shorten the LED,s life.
- Can these bulbs be used in outside lights?
Yes. you can easily shop for your indoor/outdoor application to find the one that best suit your needs.
- How should I dispose of a LED Energy Saving bulbs?
LED`s can be sent to your recycling facility with other recyclable material or as you would do with any other incandescent or halogen bulb.
- What sort of guarantee do our LED Energy Saving bulbs come with?
There is a minimum 5 years manufacturer warranty. Warranties only apply for normal use of bulbs and do not cover for abusive use or usage for which the bulb was not designed for.
- So what’s so good about LED lights?
They are virtually making our future brighter, when many efforts are made on different front to curb down the green gas effect, we have a solution to eliminate the need for millions of kilowatts used every day. It is that simple, If everyone would convert to LED,s, we would reduce the amount pollution generated in the US alone to the equivalent to 17 Million cars (for more on this subject, please read this article).
- There are many ways our LED's can make your life better: SAVE MONEY
- Removal of defective light bulbs take time and cost money, LED have a much longer life span and rarely need replacement.
- No decrease in performance throughout time LED keep their brightness
It might very well be the last time you change a light bulb to LED.
